Resource histogram

Spot over-allocation before it causes burnout.

Over-allocation alerts

What you are looking at

The team overview stacks every person's weekly allocation as a percentage of capacity. Each colour band is one person. The per-person tab breaks the stack apart — click any name to see their individual week-by-week chart. Bars crossing 100% turn red. The simulator tab lets you drag individual weekly allocations and watch over-allocation alerts, KPI cards and team totals recalculate live.

What most PMs miss

The histogram does not get built until problems are already visible in symptoms — missed deadlines, irritable standups, a key person asking for time off mid-sprint. By then the over-allocation has been happening for weeks. Build the histogram during planning, before a single task is assigned, so over-allocation is caught on paper instead of in a person. Also: planning anyone at a sustained 100% with zero buffer guarantees the first surprise turns into a missed deadline.

The expert tip

When you find an over-allocated person, your first move should never be 'ask them to work harder' — it should be looking at the under-utilised names on the same chart. The histogram is a rebalancing tool, not just a warning system. That single question, asked during planning rather than during a crisis, prevents most of the burnout this chart is built to catch.
